CREATED FOR CONNECTIONS

“Water can warm or consume,

water can quench or drown,

wind can carness or cut.

And so it is with human relationships;

We can both create and destroy,

Nurture and terrorize,

Traumatize and heal each other.” – Dr. Bruce Perry from “The Boy was Raised as a Dog

Perhaps you are a single person, married with no kids, or live in a home with several people, we were not designed to do this life thing alone.  Maybe you pride yourself on being an introvert or perhaps you’re more of an extrovert; we all need healthy relationships.  You were created for connection.

However, maybe you are a parent and you feel lonely.  While you are not “physically alone,” it can sometimes feel that way.  Something may be missing or “not quite clicking” in the relationship.  We have an entire blog devoted to working on dynamic between parent/child (Rules without Relationship Equals Rebellion) and will have more moving forward.

When you are feeling lonely, sad, anxious or depressed, it is important to have at least one, even better if you have two, dependable people in your life that you can turn to for help. Nobody should have to go through life alone.  Most importantly, if you are alone, there are things you can do today to create a community (even if that community is composed of only 2 or 3 of you – it’s a start!)

We were created for connection.

I believe sometimes we all need a swift kick in the booty for things to change!  True friends do that for each other.  If you are feeling alone, it may have something to do with something you are doing or not doing.

Because I care about you, I will provide you some challenges.  If you are not happy where you currently are, I will challenge you to stretch outside of your comfort zone.  Additionally, I believe that God created you to be who you are, but that does not mean that he does not want more for you!

Finally, I understand from experience what it’s like to feel lonely, go through hard things, and seek help from a friend.  We know what happens when one shies away from help or tries to “pretend” everything is fine when it’s not.  I know what it is like to endure difficult family dynamics, abandonment from a parent or spouse, depression, anxiety, post-partum depression, and much more.  It is important to establish healthy relationships in a home.  If this is not possible, it is important to seek help outside of the home. These resources sometimes look like:  therapy, extended family members, church support, possible support in the workplace, and ideally a friend.  I am willing to share with you how I established my support system during times I thought I was alone.

Finally, please know that if you feel completely alone, you have a new friend in me.

Let’s do this together!
